Rental Cars

I’m flying into the San Francisco area and renting a car to get to Napa. I don’t want to pay the psychotic amount to rent a car at the airport and saw I can rent the same car from the same company TOTAL @ a "neighborhood" location for less than the PER DAY cost @ the airport!! The neighborhood locations are a few miles from the airport. (Specifically I’m speaking of Enterprise, though there are others that are possibilities as well.)

All google maps, internet links point to arrival/departure terminal,or getting a car rental inside airport. but nowhere I could find driving directions to "return car rental parking/garage" to return a rental car on Will Rogers Airport, Oklahoma City, such as where to turn on terminal to reach there.

It is common knowledge that car rentals are cheaper once you get off the airport property. Does anyone know of any Hertz, Enterprise or Avis rental agencies off site that is near the train. I’d like to take a train out of the airport and get to a rental car agent somewhere in the Cleveland, Oh area. But it needs to be within walking distance of a train station and in a safe neighborhood.

Does anyone know which car rental companies have cars at the Honolulu airport terminal that you don’t need to take shuttle to go to the car lot?

Some of the car rental companies–Dollar and Hertz, for example–have their cars in a lot adjacent to short term parking. Some of them–Enterprise, Thrifty, Advantage, have lots out near Nimitz Highway, which can be a little trickier to find when you’re trying to return. All of them have frequent shuttles that are pretty much going to come by whether or not you pick up the courtesy phone. If you take the Thrifty shuttle, you might get that hilarious driver who gives all the ladies flowers on toothpicks to put behind their ear.

I used to fly interisland often, either for business or fun. In my experience, Dollar and Hertz have very smooth checkout procedures, Thrifty is the most likely to put you in a van or a PT Cruiser convertible for the price of a compact, and Enterprise points you towards your class of car in the parking lot, and lets you choose your own car within that class.

To which "international" airport are you traveling?

Both of our airports are international, yet one is named Bush Intercontinental. I hope that’s what you mean.

Hobby Airport (the other International airport) has it’s car rental agencies by the baggage claim area. After you choose an agency you take a bus out to the rental lot.

Intercontinental is different. All rental car facilities are located on JFK Boulevard, five or ten minutes from the terminals. Every terminal has pickup areas where you catch a bus (arrrrgh, the bus is either red and white or Aggie maroon and white). The bus takes you to the rental location. I use Expedia.com to book my travel, and when I rent a car I use either Advantage or Alamo. While Enterprise is in the same category, they are the worst regarding service and they nickel and dime you for everything. Budget is also cheap, but so is their service. Avis has the best service that I’ve used (used them in the US and Mexico) but they are more expensive.

EDIT: It is moot whether Enterprise picks you up, because they don’t know where you are. Everyone takes the same bus at Intercontinental.

Checking car rental sites for corfu airport it seems most firms shut at 9pm and my flight does not arrive until 11.15 pm.Are any car rental firms open late at the airport.

Im travelling to Canada in September. I was wondering which company has the best rates for car rental. Im staying for just under 2 weeks and returning the car in Calgary too.

We rented from Dollar who gave by far the best rate when my husband said the magic words "Is there anything you can do to give me a better rate?" (Answer: oh yeah, I can just click this…30% off!) (OK, thanks! I’ll take that!)

That was for over three weeks and returning in Montreal though.

Flying into DIA in evening. Would like to pick up rental car in the morning. I see the HIE has a rental desk but fear I may have to go back to the airport for the car in which case easier to pick up car evening before.

Don’t mess around and pickup the rental at DIA and be done.
